Overview
​
The upcoming Chemical Reactions at Surfaces Gordon Research Conference (GRC) in Ventura this February will include a Gordon Research Seminar (GRS), which is a tremendous opportunity to get involved for graduate students, post-docs, and researchers from government and industry with similar amounts of experience.

Goal
The goal of the GRS is to enhance the participation of young researchers in the GRC experience by providing a forum for the discussion of unpublished research in an informal environment of their peers with a small number of senior scientists serving as mentors.

The Chemical Reactions at Surfaces GRS will be held immediately preceding the associated GRC at the Ventura Beach Marriott in Ventura, California (USA). The GRS will begin at 3:30pm on Saturday, 7-February-2014 and conclude at 3:00pm the following day. The GRC will then begin at the same location at 6:00pm. It is expected that the majority of GRS participants will also apply to and participate in the GRC.

The Chemical Reactions at Surfaces GRS will focus on the diverse ways in which surface science techniques are applied to the study of important, contemporary issues. The meeting will commence with a keynote lecture by Prof. Dr. Karl-Heinz Ernst and include three student-speaker sessions and two poster sessions. Applications are welcomed from any early-career scientists working on projects related to surface chemistry. All GRS attendees are expected to actively participate, so all applicants must submit an abstract to present a poster on their research during the meeting. The GRS chairs will make requests for student oral presenters and discussion leaders from the pool of submitted abstracts.

Applications
Applications should be submitted online at http://www.grc.org/programs.aspx?id=15541. This site also contains a schedule for the meeting that will be updated as it is developed.

Those who wish to be considered for an oral presentation should apply by 7-November-2014.
International applicants who will require a travel visa are encouraged to apply as early as possible, as the visa review process can take 6-8 weeks or longer depending on your country of origin. A letter of invitation can be provided if required for a travel visa.

Registration
Those attending the GRS will be required to pay a registration fee, separate from that for the GRC. This fee will cover all activities and meals during the GRS, as well as a room for the night of 7-February-2014. The registration fee will be $260 (USD) for a single room or $220 for a shared room. Attendees are responsible for making their own travel arrangements. Some funding may become available for partial reimbursement of registration and/or travel expenses for student GRS participants.
