Q: What is ICAM?

A: ICAM is a network of Universities and Research Institutes that supports research and collaborations in quantum, soft and living matter. It currently has about 25 US branches and more than 50 branches world-wide.

Q: What is the cost of ICAM Membership?

​

A: The membership is 30k for a three-year membership, or 12.5k per year. It is possible for a group of geographically close institutions to join as a Consortium. In this case the membership fee is typically split among Consortium Members.

 

Q: What are the benefits of ICAM Membership?

A: Members of ICAM branches can compete every year for up to $25k of funding to support innovative Workshops focused on exploring new directions in emergent
science.Students and postdocs from ICAM branches can apply for support to attend
selected Summer Schools, such as Cargèse, the Fundamental of Quantum
Materials Maryland Winter School, ICTP Schools, London and Jülich.

 

ICAM offers support for one faculty representative from each branch to attend the
ICAM Annual Meeting. Limited support for students may also be available.
Recent meetings have been held at UC Santa Barbara (December 2023) and
Wellington, New Zealand (January 2025).

 

Branch members are eligible to apply for SlimEx awards that support exchanges
of junior and senior scientists to start or continue scientific collaborations in the
area of soft and living matter physics.

 

Branch members can apply for QuantEmX awards that support science travel
exchanges in quantum matter within the ICAM/EPiQS network. The program is
funded by the Moore Foundation.

 

Funding from the NSF Accelnet Program allows branch members to apply for
postdoctoral support and science exchanges with 10 networks overseas in the
area of quantum matter.Of course, the intangible, but most important benefit of the ICAM Membership is that it helps promote and disseminate the science done by your node through links with a national and international network.
