About The Event

For more information, visit the website at https://www.lorentzcenter.nl/active-matter-the-next-25-years-2022.html.

In 1995, while the excitement for the renormalization group and the new physics of critical phenomena at equilibrium was still alive, the mysterious beauty of collective motion in animals and other non-equilibrium systems was about to take the physics community back to square one of its understanding of emergent phenomena.

Twenty five years later, active matter has evolved into one of the most vibrant and productive areas of physics, with hundreds of articles published every year. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the field of active matter (plus the two years interruption caused by the Covid pandemic), we are going to gather at the Lorentz Center the pioneers of the field as well as promising young researchers of the active matter community, with the two-fold purpose of:

1) reviewing the most important problems and achievements of past twenty five years;

2) highlighting the current open problems and identifying a common research agenda for the years to come.

We have reached the limited number of participants, which is why registration for this event has closed.
